Reggae in Green on Flickr.
"Reggae in Green" has been a work in progress for over 8 years. I started the square “background" canvas with tree imagery while living in my Santa Monica studio apartment. At the time, I had no idea that this would evolve into an equine themed painting. I was simply inspired by the greenery and the curving vines of the trees around my small, third floor, balcony overlooking 6th Street. A couple of years went by, I moved to a house in Culver City, and I started a separate portrait of my beloved equine friend, Reggae. It was a large painting on paper. Several more years passed, I moved 2 more times, and I learned how to sew, thanks to my dear friend, Yvonne. I began re-examining unfinished work in my studio and decided to use my new skill to merge the two worlds by literally stitching them together. After they were joined with thread, I added some strokes and glazes with my brush. This painting will be exhibited in my upcoming show at West 4th and Jane in Santa Monica. Opening night is August 6th from 7-9pm.
